I’m Ryan Winchester. I live in Atlantic Canada, where I program the future.

I’ve loved creating things for as long as I can remember. I have worked a variety jobs, many of them hands-on and creative trades like carpentry. Through it all, I’ve always had programming and web development as a hobby. Eventually I made it my career and it has become a passion and my creative release.

I thank God every day for my wife and my children and I am blessed to be able to provide for them while doing something that I love.

I have been a full-time developer for about a decade now and as a (mostly) self-taught developer, it has been a long haul of learning and working on projects on evenings and weekends, but I’ve rarely felt like I was approaching burnout because I am working on things I love.

I am good at what I do, and have devoted a lot of thought, time, and effort into getting here. However, I am terrible at job interviews and presentations — my mind blanks and my mouth doesn’t work properly. In these situations I come across as not knowing what I’m talking about. As a first step in overcoming this and improving myself, I have started streaming (sporadically) on Twitch.tv, where I write code while practicing speaking to people, and being in “the hotseat.”

Today, I have a full-time job that I enjoy, and I am also the founder of Sevenshores Software, where I maintain interesting B2B SaaS products, and sometimes create new ones. I also work on some interesting open-source projects, and often contribute to others that I use.
